№ 03 — The painter

About the artist

Painting full-time from a small studio above an old bakery, returning each year to wherever the light feels right.

Rostyslav, Ukrainian landscape painter, standing in a warm golden field at the edge of a village, soft rolling hills behind — the kind of light that becomes his paintings.

I grew up in Lviv, where every courtyard holds a century of light. As a child I couldn't walk past a puddle without stopping — the sky reflected in it seemed more real than the sky itself. That habit never left me.

Since 2007 I have been painting full-time, chasing the moment when ordinary landscape becomes something you want to step into. Mountains at dusk, rivers catching the last gold of evening, a small figure on a vast hillside — I paint what makes the world feel generous.

Every canvas is an invitation. Come closer. The world is more beautiful than we remember.

Each canvas begins outdoors with quick studies in oil sticks, then returns to the studio for weeks of slow layering. I work with linen primed by hand, traditional pigments, and whatever light I have travelled to find — coastal cliffs, river deltas, high alpine valleys. Small figures often appear in the work: a shepherd, a child, two friends on a ridge — never the subject, only a measure of the quiet vastness around them.

№ 04 — Made for you

Commission a painting

A place that means something to you — a coastline, a window, a memory of a city — translated slowly, in oil, onto hand-primed linen.

Tell me about the place.

Commissions begin with a conversation. A few photographs of the location, a feeling, a season, perhaps a piece of music — and we build a painting from there.

Most works take one to two weeks from sketch to varnish. I'll send progress photos at every stage, and you can ask for adjustments at the underpainting stage at no cost.
